Michèle Dumoulin started violin as a three-year-old Suzuki student with Lucille Johnstone in Howick, Québec. Later studying with Denise Lupien, Mauricio Fuks, and Stephen Kondaks, she went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance at McGill University. Highlights of this time included frequent piano quintet performances and broadcasts under the auspices of Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, and first place for a chamber ensemble at the National Music Festival. Principal second violin of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra for many years, Michèle particularly enjoys chamber music, performing regularly with WSO quartets and at 4th Wall Music concerts. Michèle also organizes and teaches Sunnyside Strings, group lessons for around 75 students, in addition to her studio of private students of all levels. Sunnyside violin groups are featured regularly in Windsor Symphony Orchestra performances and local community functions. Michèle’s students are regularly solo and ensemble award-winners in the Kiwanis music festival and provincial festival, several having gone on to graduate with music degrees from Western, McGill, Rice, U of Victoria and San Francisco Conservatory and perform professionally. Since 2000, Michèle and husband Nicholas Penny have taught every summer at Huckleberry music camp in Muskoka, and locally, they host an annual two week chamber music session for string students.
