Weihong Wang was born in China in a musical family. She started playing violin at the age of 5, studying with her father. At age 13 she was one of only 5 young violinists nationwide admitted into the prestigious Central Conservatory Preparatory Middle School in Beijing, China. During school, Weihong was also one of three students of the Central Conservatory Prep chosen by the school to compete in the Menuhin Competition. Upon graduation, Weihong was admitted into the Central Conservatory of Beijing. As a member of the Central Conservatory Symphony Orchestra on its European Tour, Weihong has performed in London, Geneva, Paris, Milan, Firenze, Brussels, and Frankfurt.

After coming to Canada, Weihong has performed with the Regina Symphony Orchestra as a scholarship recipient at the University of Regina, and later performed as a member of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. Weihong received her masters degree in violin performance after continuing her studies at Northwestern University, studying with Myron Kartman and Blair Milton. Weihong was also a fellowship member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, where she performed under the baton of world class conductors such as Solti, Barenboim, Mehta, Boulez, among others. She has performed as a substitute violinist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Weihong met her future husband while at Northwestern University, who was her standpartner at the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, Weihong and their daughter moved to the Detroit area, after her husband joined the viola section of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2018, and the family settled down in Troy, Michigan. At the same year in 2019, Weihong joined the Windsor Symphony Orchestra as an ECO member. She has also started performing as a substitute violinist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Weihong loves teaching and has taught privately for many years. Her students have played in major youth orchestras including the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Weihong enjoys home life and decorating her home, and is a passionate food lover who enjoys cooking at home as well as dining out with her family. Weihong’s daughter has studied piano, violin, and oboe, and is interested in the arts. She currently plays Principle Oboe in the Detroit Youth Symphony Orchestra.
