Yiwei Yang originally hails from Qidong City in the Jiangsu province of China. She started learning the zheng at the age of seven before starting on flute at the age of 11. At the Shanghai Conservatory of Music she studied with He Shengqi, among others. She also learned piano and guitar while still living in China. Yiwei completed a B.A. in Music at the University of Windsor in 2020 where she studied with Liesel Deppe. To her delight, she was recently accepted into the MMus in Literature and Performance program at the University of Western Ontario where she will study with Stephen Tam. Yiwei has been interested in music since her childhood. In China she participated in various notable performances on zheng, and she continues to love the instrument.
